Retrospective Assessment of The Intestinal Protozoan Distribution in Patients Admitted to The Hospital Aristide Le Dantec in Dakar, Senegal, from 2011 to 2020

Infectious parasites, especially the intestinal protozoan continue to be a major public health problem in Africa, where many of same factors contribute transmission these parasites. This study was conducted investigate parasites causing protozoal infections diagnosed Aristide Le Dantec hospital (Senegal). Direct examination and Ritchie technique were used. Among 3407 stool samples studied, 645 demonstrated presence protozoa single parasitism, biparasitism, or polyparasitism, representing prevalence 18.93%. Out total protozoa, 579 (16.99%) identified monoparasitism following order: Entamoeba coli (6.87%) Blastocystis hominis (5.69%) for low pathogenic species, histolytica/dispar (2.31%) Giardia intestinalis (1.32%) species. The rates biparasitism polyparasitism 1.88% 0.06%, respectively. highest rate 24.83% between ages 0–15 years. A logistical regression model indicated that not associated with age groups.
